Betsie Valley Trail
Benzie county, michigan
The Betsie Valley Trail extends over 20 miles along the former Ann Arbor Railroad right-of-way, connecting Frankfort, Elberta, Beulah and Thompsonville and is a result of a cooperative public-private venture between local governments, the State of Michigan, and the Friends of the Betsie Valley Trail. The trail is utilized throughout all four seasons by bikers, hikers, skiers, and snowmobilers.
Johnson Hill Land Ethics Studio began working on the trail in 1999 by developing a comprehensive trail plan. Over the last 20+ years, JHLE has worked on various planning and design projects including developing solutions for trailheads, scenic overlooks, roadway crossings, river access, signage, and trail renovations. Recent projects include updates to the comprehensive plan in 2020 and approximately 2 miles of trail reconstruction along Crystal Lake which was completed 2021.
